Paul believes ministry begins with relationships: getting to know people, sharing life, and discovering how God’s grace meets us in the everyday.
A lifelong United Methodist, Paul brings a love of preaching, worship, and pastoral care to First UMC Palacios. He wants people to feel comfortable asking questions, growing in faith, and finding their place in the church’s life and service.
A calling shaped by music and people
Paul began his formal music ministry in 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Portland, Texas, serving until 2013. He returned to local church ministry in 2018 as Director of Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Rockport. In 2023, he sensed a call to pastoral ministry and entered a season of prayer, study, and discernment with trusted mentors.
His background in music continues to shape the way he leads worship. Paul studied music at The Ohio State University, with an emphasis in bassoon, and also plays flute and saxophone.
Faith in the midst of life
Paul’s approach is conversational and grounded in everyday experience. Whether he’s preaching, visiting someone in the hospital, or sitting down for a conversation, his hope is to help people recognize God’s presence and know they don’t have to walk alone.
Paul and his wife, Sandra—Sandy—share a blended family of four children and six grandchildren. They enjoy community theatre, and Paul is also involved in the Emmaus community. Alongside ministry, he works in real estate and enjoys mentoring others.
Through his short weekday Everyday Discipleship devotionals, Paul offers Scripture, a reflection question, and encouragement to carry faith into the week.
