Our story · Since 1903

Rooted in Palacios.
Growing together.

A story of faith,
resilience, and community.

Our church’s story began with people gathering to worship, grow in faith, and serve their neighbors. That same invitation continues today.

1903 · A simple beginning

A group of people organized the First Methodist Church of Palacios in a one-room schoolhouse. The congregation worshiped there until 1905.

A growing congregation

Members built Pioneer Hall as a place of worship, later adding a parsonage and a larger sanctuary in 1912. Through the years, the church grew alongside its community.

1961–1963 · Rebuilding in faith

Hurricane Carla destroyed the original sanctuary in 1961. The congregation rebuilt, and a new sanctuary was consecrated in 1963—a lasting expression of its faith and resilience.

Today · A continuing invitation

Through worship, Bible study, music, and care for one another, First UMC Palacios continues to explore what it means to follow Jesus and love our neighbors.

Looking ahead to 2028125 years of ministry.

We’re grateful for the generations who brought us here—and excited to welcome those who will help write the next chapter.
